Williston Suffers Dutch Elm Disease

Elm trees in Williston, Maryland are suffering due to the wide spread of Dutch Elm Disease.

The disease spreads due to beetles or interconnected roots, and the tree’s natural defenses cause water and nutrients to no longer be able to spread throughout the tree, causing branches, and eventually the entire tree, to die.

While some trees have a natural resistance to the disease, the city is expected to have to plant many at a cost of over $8200.
