A French drain is an installed drain system, generally around the foundation of a home that has poor drainage. What it does is draw the moisture and the standing water away from the house, down to a culvert that would lead to a county, state, or city sewer. Essentially, it’s an underground drainage system that draws water away from a dwelling down to a culvert or a sewer system.
Sometimes the damage from a French drain system is avoidable, but often at a very high cost to the homeowner. We have ground radar equipment available, which looks like a large lawn mower, and we walk it back and forth across the lawn and take radar images of the lawn. Then, you can tunnel underneath that, but it’s at a tremendous cost. It really is.
